Intayon Ilocos SUR

     The Ilocos Sur Festival is more than just a celebration; rather it is the grand showcase of the soul of Ilocos. The Ilocano word "Intayon" serves as a spirited invitation for tourist and locals alike to witness the the rich culture of Ilocos Sur. The festival was officially started at the beginning of Febuary and from the start you could already feel the built up exitement for what is about to come. 


    Street dancing and parades create an exciting atmosphere for the festival. The performers display their artistic skills through their street performances which feature bright costumes and dynamic music. The festival exudes happiness through its performances which create an active atmosphere. The festival becomes extraordinary in my mind when I picture dancers and performers uniting for a celebration.

The float parade showcases different towns through their display of decorated floats which demonstrate their traditional practices and local products. Each town displays its distinctive cultural identity through floats that showcase its agricultural products and handicrafts. The festival demonstrates how it brings people together to honor their unique traditions which make their area distinctive. The Intayon Ilocos Sur Festival provides entertainment value while delivering important cultural significance. The festival unites people from Ilocos Sur through its cultural celebration of their shared heritage. The festival demonstrates how cultural traditions unite people through their common identity while they share their heritage with others.

    It started like any other day just another task to clean up the garbage in the garden, just another day in the life. But then something changed. What was normal became reflective. What reflective became transformative of my space, my mind, my agency, my spirit.        I needed to clean the garden because fallen fruits decorated my yard in more numbers than I could count rotting, decaying, bruised, crushed, trampled.   The theme of the Teacher's Month 2025 “My Teacher, My Hero” is, without a doubt, a very good reflection of the tremendous impact that the educators have outside the classroom, a feeling that I can't help but feel when I think about the guidance of Sir Julius Pajarillo. His heroism is not just the lack of extraordinary deeds, it is the constant, unchangeable, and not-to-be-challenged kindness and prompter presence that he brings to me as his pupil.  Both as a teacher who is fully committed and a coach who is addicted to the practice of journalism, particularly radio broadcasting, Sir Julius is able to pull up the curtain gray with stale subjects and people, he announces, "here comes the discovery of self-worth."
