To the President

 



Dear Mr. President,


    As I write this letter to you, I wish well for your health and courage at this time as you lead our country toward recovery and progress. I speak not only as a student (or concerned citizen) but further as a person who holds the future of this nation close to his heart  a future to be built and sustained by the very quality of education given to each and every Filipino child.

    The recently released data and reports indicate a steep decline in student literacy and comprehension levels, which is a matter of great concern. Such a dismal reality beckons immediate, collective action. Education is not merely a privilege; it is a right that serves as a foundation for national progress. Without the provision of competent and effective education, we are facing the possibility of losing generations of future doctors, engineers, leaders, and innovators

    Mr. President, I respectfully urge you to ensure that the long-term and sustainable reforms in our education sector are prioritized by your government. This includes adequate teacher training and welfare, an up-to-date curriculum made globally competitive, equitable access to quality education for rural areas, and an improvement of digital learning infrastructure, especially in this technology-driven world.

    We, the youths, are ready to do our part. But we need a system that empowers us, equips us, and prepares us for the challenges of tomorrow. We are not looking for perfection; we are looking for real progress. We are not looking for promises; we are looking for actions. 

    I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this letter. I still hope and believe that someday, every Pilipino...

    It started like any other day just another task to clean up the garbage in the garden, just another day in the life. But then something changed. What was normal became reflective. What reflective became transformative of my space, my mind, my agency, my spirit.        I needed to clean the garden because fallen fruits decorated my yard in more numbers than I could count rotting, decaying, bruised, crushed, trampled.   The theme of the Teacher's Month 2025 “My Teacher, My Hero” is, without a doubt, a very good reflection of the tremendous impact that the educators have outside the classroom, a feeling that I can't help but feel when I think about the guidance of Sir Julius Pajarillo. His heroism is not just the lack of extraordinary deeds, it is the constant, unchangeable, and not-to-be-challenged kindness and prompter presence that he brings to me as his pupil.  Both as a teacher who is fully committed and a coach who is addicted to the practice of journalism, particularly radio broadcasting, Sir Julius is able to pull up the curtain gray with stale subjects and people, he announces, "here comes the discovery of self-worth."
