INDINEOUS MONTH

 National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month serves as a vital reminder that Indigenous cultures are not merely historical footnotes but vibrant living traditions which continue to define the Filipino identity. This year’s theme, “Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development,” underscores the essential link between ancestral wisdom and a resilient tomorrow.



Indigenous communities have long demonstrated environmental stewardship through their collective duty to protect nature and their established customs of environmental management. Their traditional farming practices together with their resource management techniques and their craftsmanship methods provide essential solutions for present-day problems such as climate change. The monthlong celebration safeguards the traditional practices which must be maintained for upcoming generations because modernization threatens their existence.



The theme demands people to take direct action for empowerment instead of merely marking the occasion through symbolical celebrations. Indigenous communities possess rich cultural traditions yet they continue to face problems with land ownership rights and social exclusion and they lack access to essential public services. The path to sustainable development demands us to safeguard their ancestral lands while we listen to their perspectives and maintain their dignity and identity during our progress.

    It started like any other day just another task to clean up the garbage in the garden, just another day in the life. But then something changed. What was normal became reflective. What reflective became transformative of my space, my mind, my agency, my spirit.        I needed to clean the garden because fallen fruits decorated my yard in more numbers than I could count rotting, decaying, bruised, crushed, trampled.   The theme of the Teacher's Month 2025 “My Teacher, My Hero” is, without a doubt, a very good reflection of the tremendous impact that the educators have outside the classroom, a feeling that I can't help but feel when I think about the guidance of Sir Julius Pajarillo. His heroism is not just the lack of extraordinary deeds, it is the constant, unchangeable, and not-to-be-challenged kindness and prompter presence that he brings to me as his pupil.  Both as a teacher who is fully committed and a coach who is addicted to the practice of journalism, particularly radio broadcasting, Sir Julius is able to pull up the curtain gray with stale subjects and people, he announces, "here comes the discovery of self-worth."
