The 3rd

The upcoming graduation ceremony has become real for us now that we are entering the last quarter of the school year. The entire journey up to this point has created an unforgettable experience. My learning process from both classroom instruction and outside activities has revealed to me that studying ten subjects creates equal parts stress and satisfaction. The knowledge I acquired during this quarter has become essential for my future years becauseI received assistance with my course selection and career development. The support I received brought me great relief because it removed a major burden from my life. The majority of life experiences become difficult to navigate, which brought me various obstacles to handle during this time. The most difficult aspect for me involved discovering how to meet my journalism responsibilities while handling a demanding school schedule. The activities I enjoyed most, including drawing, received minimal time because I had to focus on other obli...

Viva Vigan Fiesta

Image
The annual Vigan City festival creates a unique experience for me because the city transforms into an extraordinary state during this time. The streets started to come alive with people who waited to see what the day would bring from the first light of dawn. The streets filled with music that played from all directions, while the smell of local food created an atmosphere of joy that made everyone who walked by to smile. The whole community decided to take a break from their daily routines to join together for a communal celebration.      The parade was my favorite part because it showed local pride through its continuous display of local heritage. I observed how flag bearers executed their duties, which created a disciplined march that led to the SWAT team and ROTC cadets marching in their organized patterns. I recognized many people in the crowd who passed by because they included former teachers and old classmates and relatives and friends I had not seen for a l...

The Man Who Fought with pen and paper

Image
The Philippine people recognize Jose Rizal as their national hero because his life represents their national identity development. Rizal created a vision of Philippine identity which he demonstrated through his intellectual work and artistic achievements to show his countrymen their fundamental human worth. His most important social contribution stemmed from his exceptional intelligence which he used to awaken national awareness that enabled people to challenge unfairness while they maintained hope for social change. Through his masterpieces, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Rizal gave a powerful voice to the silent agony of a people under colonial rule. His narratives presented an unfiltered view of reality which revealed systemic abuse and corruption that people refused to acknowledge. The readers discovered fictional content which showed their actual lives because they recognized their common struggles and understood that togetherness would bring them freedom. Rizal maint...

WAKASAN ABUSO SA KABATAAN

Image
The 2025 National Children's Month (NCM) theme, “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” (End Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials: Fight for the Safety and Rights of Children!), is a timely and critical call to arms. The theme developed through consultations with Filipino children who showed that social media presents dangerous hazards to their safety and dignity which now exist in digital spaces. The OSAEC-CSAEM framework shows that people use the internet for educational purposes and social interactions but it has developed into a dangerous space where abusive activities occur. The observance acts as a vital force which unites government agencies and parents and educators and private sector members to work together against online child abuse.       The Philippine government shows its dedication to safeguard  This whole-of-society approach, as reflected in the law's Im...

INDINEOUS MONTH

Image
National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month serves as a vital reminder that Indigenous cultures are not merely historical footnotes but vibrant living traditions which continue to define the Filipino identity. This year’s theme, “Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development,” underscores the essential link between ancestral wisdom and a resilient tomorrow. Indigenous communities have long demonstrated environmental stewardship through their collective duty to protect nature and their established customs of environmental management. Their traditional farming practices together with their resource management techniques and their craftsmanship methods provide essential solutions for present-day problems such as climate change. The monthlong celebration safeguards the traditional practices which must be maintained for upcoming generations because modernization threatens their existence. The theme demands people to take direct ac...

Elpidio Quirino

Image
President Elpidio Quirino (1890-1956) was indeed a genuine self-made man, born very poor and becoming the sixth President of the Philippines by his own efforts. He was born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, and he finished his studies really hard, having often to work at various places—like being a teacher in the barrio or a clerk of properties—to pay for his education. He got his degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 1915 and also passed the bar exam the same year. This solid base of hard work and legal skills helped to start a very successful career for him, first as a law clerk and then as a private secretary to Senate President Manuel L. Quezon, who was a close collaborator and mentor in politics that greatly influenced his political career.            Quirino’s life was a constant climb up through the legislative and executive structures. In 1919 he was elected to represent Ilocos Sur and then he became a s...

Super Teacher

Image
The theme of the Teacher's Month 2025 “My Teacher, My Hero” is, without a doubt, a very good reflection of the tremendous impact that the educators have outside the classroom, a feeling that I can't help but feel when I think about the guidance of Sir Julius Pajarillo. His heroism is not just the lack of extraordinary deeds, it is the constant, unchangeable, and not-to-be-challenged kindness and prompter presence that he brings to me as his pupil.  Both as a teacher who is fully committed and a coach who is addicted to the practice of journalism, particularly radio broadcasting, Sir Julius is able to pull up the curtain gray with stale subjects and people, he announces, "here comes the discovery of self-worth." The first thing you notice about his manner is that he is so comfortable and relaxed that all the barriers are immediately lifted; student-teacher relationships are transformed into the kind of partnership where my intellectual and personal growth is not only...
